Recruiting Report: Trayvon Williams (2019)
Once a budding star in Iowa’s 2019 class, 6-foot-4 guard Trayvon Williams has officially arrived.
It wasn’t just his exceptional performance at the Kings of the Court tournament in May, but also his dominant performance at the Urbandale Team Camp camp last week; when he came off the bench like a secret weapon for Valley and gave Newton guard Garret Sturtz — one of 2018’s best prospects — fits for the entirety of the second half.
Currently, we have Williams ranked 16th in 2019, and he’s due for a significant bump when next installment is released later this month.
It’s not only us at Prep Hoops that have him pegged as one of the very best in Iowa, but some D1s have been paying attention too.
“It’s (recruitment) started up. I’ve gotten a lot of interest. I got an offer from William Penn (last year), but I’m looking for some bigger stuff, some offers from some more major schools is my goal. I’m looking for my first Division I offer,” said Williams.
“I got interest from Drake and I have interest from UNI, and University of Nebraska-Omaha. That’s letters mostly, and UNI recently talked to my head coach at Valley about me, so they’re really showing interest.”
With an explosive first step, great size/length and plus athleticism, Williams is already a physical threat. He’s working now to develop the mental part of the game.
“I’ve just been working on my IQ, and when to take shots. And I’ve been focusing on my jump-shooting so I can become a more all-around player, which has been my goal, and which is still my goal,” said Williams.
As a sophomore, Williams played with the Tigers’ sophomore squad. Reason being: Valley is the most loaded hoops program in Iowa.
This season — though he would easily start at most any other program in Iowa — Williams will have to earn his playing time with Valley, despite being one of Iowa’s best talents.
He’s OK with that.
“At my school, they don’t really care as much about your talent, they want to know that you can be dependable and counted on,” said Williams. “And if you’re not, it’s just a simple fact that you won’t play. And I respect that.”
In the meantime, he’ll spend his summer with Kingdom Hoops Elite 16U.
“I just want my recruitment to start to go up, because I feel that I’m one of the top players in the state,” said Williams. “And it’s my time to show it.”
