Recruiting Report: TJ Schnurr (2019)
Already a versatile threat offensively, Bishop Garrigan’s 6-foot-5 post, TJ Schnurr, is continuing to diversify his skill-set as head prepares for his junior season with the Golden Bears.
He’s hoping that with his newfound versatility, college programs will take notice.
“I’d like to get some colleges interested in me. I’d like to play college basketball anywhere, really,” said Schnurr.
“I have a couple letters, and I’ve gotten a phone call from Dordt. And I’ve gotten some letters asking me to attend team camps and things like that. There’s Augustana (SD), Morningside, just some schools like that.”
Schnurr already has the size to be an effective post player, and he’s working to develop some additional perimeter skills, to add to his existing shooting prowess.
“I’ve definitely been working on shooting and ball-handling. And I started playing with All Iowa Attack in the spring and that’s helped my defensive quickness a lot,” said Schnurr, who shot 39 percent from deep as a sophomore and scored 18.1 points per game.
He says next season he might even play some point guard.
“This year for Garrigan, I’ll probably play some three and four, we’ll be a big team,” he said. “I’m looking forward to playing the three, and I’ll probably even bring it up the floor sometimes.”
In the meantime, he’ll spend his summer with All Iowa Attack 16U.
“The spring has been good. I come off the bench, and when I play with the bench players I’m more of a scorer, and when I play with the starters, I’ll be a three or a four and work on my defense and being a facilitator.”
