Recruiting Report: Malik Jones (2018)
East Lansing point guard Malik Jones is heading into his 17U season with the hopes of nabbing his first scholarship offer.
There’s one Michigan D2 that he feels is close to offering, and with a big summer, he could see several roll in.
“Pretty much the same schools have been interested. Wayne State (MI) will probably be my first offer. University of Illinois-Chicago contacted me, and I’m going to their elite camp in August. Albion contacted me,” said Jones.
The 5-foot-7 floor general is currently Michigan’s 44th-ranked 2018, and says it’s his jumper that he’s been working to improve the most of late.
“I’m just working on my mid-range and improving on my finishes around the rim. My 3-point shot needs to improve, and I got a nice handle, but I’m continuing to work on that,” said Jones, who reflected on his junior season with the Trojans.
“I thought I did solid, we had a lot of scorers, so I just needed to be a leader and get those senior scorers the ball. And when I had open shots, I just needed to knock them down.”
He’ll again be running with Elite Nation 17U this summer, and his personal goals are pretty cut and dry: get better, and get offers.
“Basically, my goals are improving, every coach I talk to wants me to knock down the mid-range consistently, and hit the 3 when open,” said Jones.
“And basically, I’m just trying to pick up an offer before my senior season starts.”
