Recruiting Report: Kyle Boerhave (2018)
Once a hidden gem from northern Iowa, 6-foot-6 forward Kyle Boerhave is now firmly on the Prep Hoops radar.
He was sensational two weekends ago at the Northstar Hoops State Tournament, and caught the attention of Minnesota writer Ryan James.
We learned then that colleges were seriously interested in the Sheldon standout, and one Nebraska Division II has even offered.
“Recruiting is going really well, for NAIA I’ve heard from Briar Cliff, Morningside, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt. And D3, I’ve heard from Northwestern in Minnesota and Buena Vista,” said Boerhave.
“Also for D2, Wayne State offered me a few weeks ago, I’ve been trying to get a visit scheduled and we’ll figure that out soon. And I’ve gotten a few letters from USF (Sioux Falls) and SMSU (Southwest Minnesota State), letters and camp invites and stuff like that.”
The Wayne State offer, Boerhave says, was a direct reflection of the work he put in last summer.
“I was super excited, I called my mom and dad right away, and they were super excited because they know I put in a lot of work last summer and got a lot quicker,” he said.
“I’m ready to get down there and meet the coaches. I’ve talked to them on the phone quite a bit, and they’ve sent me a lot of letters, and I really respect them. I’m just really excited to get down there and visit.”
A big and physical combo forward, Boerhave says he excels at scoring at the rim, but has been putting in a lot of work with his perimeter skill-set.
“I’d say my finishing is the best, I’m working on my shooting range a little more and my ball-handling,” said Boerhave. “But I love getting to the rim and using pump-fakes and all that. I like contact and finishing through it.”
He had a very strong junior season with the Orabs, averaging 14.1 points on 60 percent shooting and 8.1 rebounds per game.
Now, he’s in the midst of his 17U season with Southwest Minnesota Stars.
“I joined them when I was a 16U and I’ve been having a lot of fun with them,” said Boerhave. “We’re a tight-knit group of guys, we learn from each other and have really gotten to know each other.”
He added: “I’ve really been working a lot on my shot and it’s starting to fall. So now guys are closing out harder on me and I can do what I like to do, which is finish at the hoop.”
Recruitment-wise, his goals are to rack up some additional D2 offers this summer.
“My goals are to get more D2 offers, and my ultimate goal is to get a D1 offer, that would be amazing. But I’m really working to get more D2 offers,” said Boerhave. “And I’ll just keep working on my game and see what I can do.”
