Recruiting Report: Kenny Quinn (2019)
Renowned as one of Iowa’s best on-ball defenders, Hoover point guard Kenny Quinn is one the verge of what could be a huge next 12 months.
He’ll spend the next two seasons leading a Hoover squad that he’s been been starting with since his freshman season, and this summer he’ll continue to be the defensive stopper for one of the Midwest’s best teams, Iowa Barnstormers 16U.
Though his recruitment has been lukewarm so far, he could see a spike this summer if things go well.
“It (recruitment) hasn’t been a lot, but mostly just letters and people talking to my coach. Like I’ve gotten letters from UIC (Illinois Chicago), and they invited me to their elite camp, and I’m probably going to go to that in August,” said Quinn.
“And then I know North Dakota has talked to my coach, and Drake has been on me a little bit too. But as of now, that’s been it.”
The 5-foot-9 junior-to-be says that this offseason he’s been working on improving his jumper more than anything else.
“I think with my game right now, I’m more of a get-to-the-basket kind of guy, but I’ve been working on my jumper this summer, and just getting better at shooting,” said Quinn.
“And I’m working on getting up more shots in the game, because sometimes I’m a little too unselfish, and I pass to my teammates a lot. But I’m just working on getting up more shots and scoring the ball more, because that’s what I’ll have to do next year for my team.”
As a sophomore with the Huskies, Quinn averaged 5.7 points per game on 34 percent shooting, both of those numbers could see dramatic increases next season.
“I was more of a facilitator, and more of a leader for the team,” said Quinn, who led the Huskies with 3.5 assists per game. “My sophomore year, I don’t think it went the best, we had a pretty decent season, but I think we could have done better.”
As he heads into his ever-important 16U summer with the Barnstormers, Quinn says he’s going to play his part with that team, and hopefully he can turn some heads while doing so.
“My role for that team, honesty, is to guard the other team’s best player, facilitate, and knock down shots when I can. I just try and do my job to help us win, and that’s all I care about,” said Quinn.
“I’m expecting to come out and play hard and play to my full ability. And hopefully I can pick up an offer, and if not that, then some heavy interest as I go into my junior season.”
