Recruiting Report: Jonathan Cisse (2018)
It is very tough to argue that 6’2 G Jonathan Cisse of St. Thomas More didn’t have one of the best years in the state last year. He went into the year as our 32nd best player for the 2018 class, but he soon exceded expectations in an expanded role for the Cougars. He was the leading scorer on a team that fell just a game short of a shot at the title, and the Cougars woud have been the odds on favorite for the championship. However, next year he will have less help and size inside than he did this past year, but if fellow 2018 G Jude Joseph continues to grow, they will have a good chance again next season.
Next year, Cisse says that his role is clear. “I’m going to have to be a leader, and be more vocal than I was in the past. I’m still going to have to score, but I’m going to try to be more of a facilitator and get everyone else involved.” He also says that he is going to have the ball in his hands, and will star at the point more than off guard he was last year.
Cisse started off the spring with New Orleans Basketball Club on the Powerade circuit, but he has chosen not to return with them in July. “I chose not to play AAU, and just work on getting better for my senior season.” He says that he is working on getting stronger, and gaining weight heading into next season and to prepare for college. He is going to have to put on 20+ pounds before he will be able to play at the next level.
Despite being our 10th best player in the state for the 2018 class, Cisse only has one offer to Stephen F. Austin, although he thinks that will be changing going forward. He says that he has been talking to SFA pretty reguarly, but has also been in contact with the coaches at Butler, as well as LSU. Cisse currently has a 2.7 GPA and got a 19 the first time taking the ACT, but is trying for a 22 in the fall.
