Recruiting Report: Alec Oberhauser (2018)
One of the highest debuts made in the recently updated 2018 rankings was by Aplington-Parkersburg’s Alec Oberhauser.
He’s a 6-foot-5 point guard, that alone makes him one of the more intriguing prospects in the state, and he pairs that great size with a do-it-all skill-set.
Case in point: Oberhauser led the Falcons last season in assists, blocks and rebounding. He was second in steals, and averaged 11.2 points on 54 percent shooting.
That size and skill have college coaches inquiring.
“I got something from Morningside after our last game of the season, and then since then it’s been a lot of NAIA and D3 schools. A couple weeks ago, I was at Upper Iowa for their camp,” said Oberhauser.
He also listed Central, Simpson, Grand View and Northwestern (MN) as schools that are interested in him.
But D2 is the goal for now.
“Hopefully some more Division II stuff comes in, that would be nice playing at a D2 school,” said Oberhauser.
A combo-guard, who leans more towards point guard, Oberhauser defined his skill-set to PHIA.
“I think I’m good at getting the ball up the floor to the guys that need to have it. And just seeing the floor well with my height,” said Oberhauser.
“I’ve been working on getting into the lane more and getting to the free-throw line, and then working on my shot as well.”
This spring, Oberhauser played with Tim Schurring’s Iowa Prep 17U squad, he’ll do the same this summer.
“Things went pretty well for us as a team. Tim has really been working with us a lot, we’ve been working on a lot of ball-handling stuff, and ways to attack the hoop,” said Oberhauser.
The ultimate goal for this summer: “I’m hoping to get something from a Division II school this summer,” he said. “Upper Iowa would be nice.”
