Tre Wood, 6’1″ 175, ST. Johns College HS, Washington, DC, 2018.
Tre had an excellent season for his St. Johns Cadets who surprised many people in the DMV, with their year, but not the SJC team and staff. The Cadets lost All Met Player of the year Anthony Cowan to the University of Maryland where he started as a true freshmen and wing Jeffery Dowtin to Rhode Island where he saw substantial playing time. SJC played a loaded schedule this past season and defeated Wilson (DC),WT Woodson (VA 6A State Champion), Gonzaga (WCAC & ranked #8 in nation), DeMatha (WCAC), Providence Day (NC), Paul VI (nationally ranked most of the season), St. Mary Ryken (WCAC) and Bishop O’Connell (WCAC). The Cadets finished the year at 25-10 playing a national schedule and very impressive 13-4 in the powerful WCAC.The Cadets only non DMV loss was to Foothills Christian HS (CA) in the UA Holiday title game 61-57.
Last season we can best describe Tre as an explosive pass first PG, facilitator, and tough defender. However, Tre can score and he averaged 11 ppg in addition to 5.8 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. While Tre exhibited an excellent mid range game and the ability to knock down 3 point shots last year, he says” This summer I am working on my jumps shot, and everything 3 point related, which means shooting off the dribble, spot ups and off screens. I am training with my Uncle Clayton Crouch this summer.” Tre’s Uncle Crouch additionally works with several other high profile basketball players in the DMV.
This summer and for basically year around Tre works on his game daily in some form. He says,” I am on a weight training regimen, but I believe I am at a good target weight at 175″ The chiselled Wood adds, ” I only want to gain lean muscle, but maintain my weight & lower my body fat a little.” Tre adds, “Another dimension Uncle Clayton and I are working on is my ability to finish above bigs and over the rim. We are also improving my rid range floater game and working on all aspects of basketball.”
Not only is Tre a great basketball player, he is also a great student carrying a 3.2 GPA. Tre lives in Upper Marlboro, MD and his commute to Military Road and SJC sometimes can take an hour. Tre says, ” I do not have much free time, and I mus be structured & regimented to succeed in the classroom & court, but on my downtime I like crime shows and comedy.”
This spring & summer Tre is playing for team Takeover 17 & U who are currently 11-5 on the Nike EBYL Circuit. Tre says, ” I think we playing much better and with more structure than in the earlier sessions. We play next in Augusta, SC in the Peach Jam and I think we are threat to win the title in Augusta. We then will play in a tournament in Las Vegas.
