Recruit Update, Justin Moore : 2019
Justin Moore, 6’4″, CG, DeMatha Catholic HS Hyattsville, MD 2019.
Justin is a national recruit currently ranked #53 in the nation by 24/7 Sports despite being injured. He is an elite player who was breaking out last season as true freshmen for the DeMatha Stags. However, on January 3rd in a game versus WCAC opponent Bishop McNamara HS Justin went in for tomahawk dunk vs McNamara’s 6’9″ Twin Towers and he got bumped at the peak of incredible vertical rise. Justin took a very, very hard fall and he tore his ACL. Not only was this a blow to Justin, it hurt DeMatha who missed their rising star for the remainder of the season. Later in the month Justin has his ACL repaired and he is doing well, ahead of schedule.
Justin says. ” I am working very hard to get back and right now I am about 65%. I go to physical therapy for weight work 3 times a week, and do light squats, leg extensions, balance training, slides and other exercises including stretching and strengthening other areas of my body. Also, I get great training and treatments at DeMatha HS with our Trainers names Ms. Wendy and Ms. Jen. Justin has been working lightly on the hardwood and says’ I am doing shooting work from 15 feet in without jumping and working on my ball handling.” Justin is itching to get back to playing the game he loves, but he has been very patient and courageous in his comeback which he says, ” I will be back at 110%, but my Doctors and Trainers are taking it very slow with no rushing. We are working hard to make sure I do not get hurt again. On July 6, I see my Doctor for medical clearance and the next phase of my rehab.”
DeMatha’s season begins in early December and Justin says, ” I will be full go by then and without a brace. Our team has great potential this year and we think we will challenge for the WCAC titles and improve on our 25-9 record from last season.”
We strongly believe Justin will be an impact player this year. He is an excellent CG who makes his teammates better and possesses a very high basketball IQ with great court vision. Just before some plays end Justin has moved on the next. When he wants Justin can be a superb scorer from all 3 levels. On the defensive end he can play tough man to man on ball defense in addition to being an excellent rebounding guard in traffic and running down lose balls. Our prayers are with Justin and because of his great heart and work ethic he will come back stronger and better. One of Justin’s favorite players to study Is Kobe Bryant, and he says.” I love Kobe’s will to win and all around game, great footwork, defense and his offensive repertoire.”
As we mentioned in previous article DeMatha has the potential to be nationally ranked a comment nationally re-known Head Coach Mike Jones will not let go players the had or ego. Coach Jones played for DeMatha & national high school legend Morgan Wooten who is High School Basketball Hall of fame. Jones was named as Coach Wooten’s successor in after an excellent college career at Old Dominion University and has been the Stages Head Coach for 14 years. We will be writing an article in the next week on DeMatha’s other prospects and team, stay tuned. Other teams coming in the near future, Wise HS, Gonzaga HS, Eleanor Roosevelt HS, Paint Branch HS, Southern HS, and others as well as Recruiting Reports .
Justin currently holds offers from Notre Dame, Old Dominion, UCF and Xavier and just received offers from Wake Forest and Towson State today, but says.” I am not thinking about college now for basketball, “I am focusing on DeMatha and my rehab. College basketball is a long way off, but I do like Business and Communications as possible majors at this time.” In the classroom Justin is very good student with a GPA just over 3.0. and he likes to spend time with his close knit family, says, “My parents, brother Jason (entering grade 7 & excellent player) & family are very supportive of me, my Mom (Keli Moore)and Dad (Greg Moore) make sure I stay structured and focused. They are great mentors and role models for me and the same can be said for Coach Jones, DeMatha, the the Coaches, players and Trainers”.
