This weekend on June 10 & 11 the University of Maryland hosted the Maryland Team Games high school basketball tournament at the University of Maryland Xfinity Center in College Park, MD. Top high school teams from Washington, DC, Maryland and Pennsylvania participated. Teams were placed in different brackets which included, the Steve Blake bracket, Jake Layman bracket, Dez Wells bracket, Melo Trimble bracket, Juan Dixon bracket and the Diamond Stone bracket.
Old Mill HS Patriots Millersville, MD.
Old Mill won the Championship for the Maryland Team Games bracket this Sunday on the campus of the University Of Maryland on the main court at the Xfinity Center, home of The Terrapins basketball team. The Patriots defeated Bishop McNamara by a good margin and were in control for the whole game. McNamara is a very very talented & probably favored to defeated Old Mill after a big win vs. Rock Creek Christian. However, we were very impressed with the cohesiveness and underrated talent of Old Mill HS team all weekend.
5’9″ 2019 All Anne Arundel County PG “Avion Robinson controlled the tempo for the game of the game” said Head Coach Mike Francis who added, “Avion is very fast and competitive.” 6’7″ 2018 forward, Hollique Johnson is a super active player and finished in the paint very well. Additionally, he is an excellent rim protector and led Old Mill HS in blocks last season. 6’5″ forward Trey Henry rebounded very well and played solid defense.
Will Spriggs a 6’2″ 2018 WG, is a very versatile player who knocked down outside shots and is the teams best shooter. 6’4″ 2019 WG Daevone Johnson is a very athletic player who displayed great slashing ability and excellent defender. Coach Francis says, ” Daevone is working very hard and becoming a more versatile player.”
Last season Old Mill HS finished @ 22-3 and with all of the players mentioned could be the favorite to repeat as Anne Arundel County Champions for 2017/18.
Old Mill HS and Anne Arundel County schools produce some excellent underrated talent and Prep Hoops will be providing ramped up coverage for AA County this season in addition to all Maryland & Washington, DC teams. Adam Ayalew & Coby Giacubeno will continue to do great work for Prep Hoops in Maryland & DC and I will be covering these areas as well.
Coach Mike Francis was awarded All County HS Coach of the year and he has coached at Old Mill HS the last 3 years and his top Assistant Coach, Brian Williams who has coached with Coach Francis the past 10 years, which included Essex CC & North County HS . Coach Francis son, AJ Francis played HS football at Gonzaga HS & the University of Maryland, just signed a 2 year contract with the Washington Redskins.

The Mustangs looked very, very good in their advance to the finals this weekend at the Maryland Games. Bishop McNamara defeated highly regarded Rock Creek Christian in the semifinals. We were very impressed with the play of 6’9″ Makhi & his twin brother, Mahkel Mitchell ranked #34 and #103 nationally. The Twin Towers played very hard all weekend & displayed excellent post moves, follow ups & rim protection skills. We will be providing Recruiting Reports for 4 other Bishop McNamara Mustang players in the next month.
