Memorial Day Takeover 2018 Scouting Part 2
ELLICOTT CITY, MD — We were in the gym all weekend checking out local teams at Memorial Day Takeover. It is time for our detailed scouting report on the event. Here is part two of our 2018 scouting report!
DARIUS HINES | TEAM TAKEOVER ORANGE
It’s only a matter of time before Darius Hines picks up his first division one scholarship. A true PG in every sense. Hines is a coach on the floor. He’s very unselfish. Defends well. Scores when he needs to. Can shoot it well from the catch or off the dribble. He’s a work horse, and tough as nails.
BRAEDEN JOHNSON | TEAM TAKEOVER GREY
Braeden Johnson is one of the better shooters we’ve seen in Virginia’s class of 2018. An added bonus is that he’s a good athlete with great size at 6’5. Johnson doesn’t need much room to get his shot off, and is always ready to shoot.
JOSH MACK | ERICK GREEN PREMIERE
Josh Mack followed up a solid performance at Southern Jam Fest with another at MDT2K17. Mack is a strong athlete, and a good defender who anticipates well. Mack is quick and crafty. He’s a good paint getter, and adept at finishing through contact.
COLLIN NNAMENE | TEAM TAKEOVER ORANGE
Despite being hampered by a minor injury, Collin Nnamene was in good form for TTO Orange. The long limbed 6’9 big man is a prideful rim protector who blocks shots at a high level. Nnamene also showed improved footwork and confidence offensively in the post.
IAN ROBERTSON | TEAM TAKEOVER ORANGE
Ian Robertson is a 6’6 lefty with a smooth perimeter jumper from the catch. Robertson moves well without the ball, and sees the floor well.
TAHJ SMALL | TEAM MELO RED
Tahj Small is a long and lanky 6’4 wing who scored it well from all three levels for Team Melo Red. Small can shoot it well both from the catch, and off the dribble. He will be prep into 2018 at Mt. Zion in Baltimore.
JAKE STEPHENS | ERICK GREEN PREMIERE
Jake Stephens is the definition of a sleeper. A sturdily built 6’8 big man owning a 7’3 wingspan, Stephens is a threat to score with his back the basket or beyond the 3 point arc. Not only is he a hard worker on the floor, Stephens is also a 4.6 student.
MATTHEW URBACH | TEAM TAKEOVER ORANGE
Matt Urbach hit six threes on his way to 26 points in a win over Team Melo Red in the final four. Not only did the 6’4 sniper light it up from the catch, he also got in the lane and mixed it up with some creative finishes in the lane.
GUS WISE | ERICK GREEN PREMIERE
Gus Wise is a knock down shooter from the catch at 6’7. Wise can get hot in a hurry, and must be accounted for on the perimeter at all times.
