Maryland/DC 2018 Rankings Overview
Here’s a broad overview of our updated , taking a look at some of the trends we’ve seen so far. Stay tuned for more in depth breakdowns of the 2018 class and new 2019 and 2020 rankings!
CHANGES IN THE TOP 10
The biggest jump since our last rankings is courtesy of Sidwell Friends guard/forward Saddiq Bey, who went from relative unknown to national level recruit. Bey, who stands at 6’7, has grown considerably in the last year. Bey possesses a unique skill set for his size. He is becoming more coordinated, athletic, and could still be growing.
The guy we’re expecting to make a similar kind of jump in recruitment this summer is Riverdale Baptist big man Tyrese Samuel, who comes in at 9 after his recent arrival from Canada. The 6’8” forward developed nicely over the course of the past few months, and still has tremendous room for growth.
TREMENDOUS DEPTH IN 2018
There could be as many as fifty, and maybe more players in this class play division one ball. And many of them will be playing at the highest level. There is a significant pool of talent locally, and below we take a brief look at a handful players who should not be overlooked.

POSSIBLE SUMMER STOCK BOOSTERS
There are a few players who had good April live periods that should now be on college coaches’ recruitment radar moving forward this summer. Here’s just a few to be specific.
#26) CHRISTIAN JONES | 6’3 G | ANNAPOLIS (MD)/TEAM BBC
Jones had a good junior season, and has built on that with a fantastic start to the AAU season. Jones is a point guard, but has shown the ability to play off the ball and be productive. He’s been playing well at the BSN Summer League, and should continue that trend come July.
#29) IKE NWEKE | 6’7” PF | GEORGETOWN PREP (MD)/TEAM MELO
Nweke is a flat out workhorse, and a force on the offensive glass. He has very long arms, and plays much bigger than his listed height. Nweke runs the floor, sets strong screens, moves well off the ball, has soft hands, and a nice touch from mid range.
#34) CURTIS HOLLAND III | 6’3” F | SOUTHERN (MD)/DISTRICT BASKETBALL CLUB
Holland is a big time athlete, and a talented scorer who can play on and off the ball. He defends multiple positions, rebounds well, and plays with a non stop motor.
#44) STEPHEN CANNADY | 6’1” PG | ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI (MD)/6TH MAN WARRIORS
Cannady is a leader, and a hard worker both on and off the court. He’s a skilled, unselfish, reliable playmaker with some quickness, and can make shots from all over the floor. Cannady is a solid defender both on and off the ball, and plays with a consistently high motor.
#53) SHERWYN DEVONISH | 5’11” PG | BLADENSBURG (MD)/MARYLAND’S FINEST
One of the more unheralded recruits in the area, there is little doubt that Devonish will be a division one guard. He plays both ends of the floor, is a leader and impact player for his high school team, and has been a major standout this spring with his AAU Club.
#65) CLEVELAND HORTON | 6’2″ G | POLY (MD)/CECIL KIRK (MD)
Horton is a super tough defender who will need to pick up his scoring with the recent departure of Temple commit Dre Perry. Horton is very shifty with the ball, knows how to change pace well, and is adept at getting to the rim.
