2020 Rankings Breakdown: Beltway Guards Part 1
PrepHoops Maryland recently updated the class of 2020 player rankings. Getting a list of 35 players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was an extremely difficult challenge. With most of the list consisting of Division I prospects, there is no shortage of talent to go around.
The D.C. Metropolitan Area is known for breeding elite talent in the sport of basketball. The class of 2020 is no different. Here’s a look at part one of the Beltway guards from the rankings.
EARL TIMBERLAKE | 6’5 G | DEMATHA/TEAM TAKEOVER | #3 OVERALL

At 6’5, with a 6’11 wingspan, there isn’t much on the court that Timberlake can’t do. He’s an outstanding playmaker, and a strong rebounder out of his area.
ANTHONY THOMAS | 6’6 G | SPRINGBROOK/TEAM ST8MENT | #5 OVERALL
Thomas is a skilled 6’6 guard who can handle the ball, and make shots from all over the floor. What we like most about Thomas is that he gives max effort each time he hits the floor.
MIKE SUMNER JR. | 6’3 G | ST. JOHN’S/DC PREMIER | #8 OVERALL

Sumner is a slasher who can finish with the best of them. He’s a much improved defender, and a high level competitor with a non stop motor.
DARIUS MILES | 6’5 G | THEODORE ROOSEVELT/DC BLUE DEVILS | #11 OVERALL

At 6’5, Miles is a smooth left handed guard who can make shots from the perimeter, but also knows how to mix it up and use the mid range areas. He’s a versatile defender, and a crafty finisher.
ELIJAH WOOD | 6’6 G | ST. ANDREW’S/TEAM ST8MENT | #12 OVERALL
