2018 Rankings Breakdown: Beltway Guards Part 1
PrepHoops Maryland recently updated the class of 2018 player rankings. Getting a list of 100 players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was an extremely difficult challenge. With most of the list consisting of Division I prospects, there is no shortage of talent to go around.
The D.C. Metropolitan Area is known for breeding elite talent in the sport of basketball. The class of 2018 is no different. Here’s a look at part one of the Beltway guards from the rankings.
PRENTISS HUBB | 6’3 G | GONZAGA/DC PREMIER | #3 OVERALL

One common word used to describe Hubb is “smooth”. The 6’3 lefty doesn’t stand out in one particular area, but is solid in all areas. Hubb is a proven winner, and can play both guard spots. He’s a high IQ player, and a leader.
SADDIQ BEY | 6’7 G | SIDWELL FRIENDS/DC PREMIER | #5 OVERALL
Bey is perhaps the most improved player we’ve seen in the last 12 months. It doesn’t hurt that he’s grown about three inches since. The versatile wing has a unique skill set, and has become more patient. He can score from the post, work ball screens, and consistently create easy looks for himself as well as others.
KIYON BOYD | 6’5 G | HD WOODSON/TEAM LOADED VA | #6 OVERALL
At 6’5, 220+ pounds, Boyd is an absolute tank. He plays with a high motor, and impacts the game on both ends of the floor with his versatility. Boyd is a capable scorer from three levels, and a strong finisher in traffic.
MEZIE OFFURUM | 6’6 G | GEORGETOWN PREP/DC BLUE DEVILS | #11 OVERALL

Another well built wing with good size, Offurum is highly skilled and explosive at 6’6 230. One thing most don’t realize about Offurum is he is a very good passer. He moves well without the ball, and rebounds well.
WYNSTON TABBS | 6’3 G | ST. MARY’S RYKEN/TEAM MELO | #13 OVERALL

Tabbs is a big guard who can play the point, but has the size and skill set to work off the ball and be effective. A shifty, downhill-type guard who likes to work ball screens and is adept at getting in the lane, Tabbs makes a living at the foul line.
