WNC’s Top Point Guards
Western North Carolina is starting to get the recognition of being a basketball area again. The point guard position is one of the most important roles on the court and a few players from WNC are making their name known in the state as being the best at their position.
Isaiah Pruett-At 5-foot-9, Pruett is a hard-nosed floor general who came on the PrepHoopsNC radar after a big performance during the early part of last season against one of the best senior point guards in the state. Pruett went head to head with Lees-McRae College signee Quay Kimble of Shelby High School dropping 26 points in a one-point loss.
Pruett is a pass-first point guard who can also score from all areas on the floor. He is a little under-sized at the position but makes up for it with his tenacious play on both ends of the floor. He is a god shooter out to the three-point line and can attack off the dribble. He has minimal interest from colleges at this point, but Division Two schools looking for a winner and a tough lead guard will have take a look at Pruett. He was named 2nd Team All-WNC by the Citizen-Times, an Asheville based news publication.
Caleb Mills-A 6-foot-5 lead guard at Asheville Christian Academy, Mills is a hybrid point guard that has the length at the position that is becoming more and more popular among college coaches. He has picked up several offers this spring playing with Big Shots JWB on the Big Shots circuit. He can score from all points on the floor and is a great passer. Kevin Schnieder, Vice-President of Big Shots has labeled Mills as a high-major prospect at the college level. He will team up next year at Asheville Christian Academy with another top-guard in the area, Raishaun Brown who has transferred from Carolina Day School.
