Stock Riser: Trey Wertz (2018)
Stock Riser: Trey Wertz (2018)
The last name Wertz is a popular one in the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Langston Wertz Jr. is the lead sports writer for The Charlotte Observer.
Trey Wertz, a rising senior at Providence Day School is another reason why the “Wertz” name is becoming more and more popular.
With a 6-foot-8 wingspan on a 6-foot-5 long and lanky frame, Trey is gaining national recruiting attention with his ability to score a basketball. Playing with Team Loaded NC, Wertz is attracting the attention of Stanford, Missouri and Virginia to name a few.
His game consists of a smooth shooting touch from well outside of the three-point line and an ability to create off the dribble either getting to the basket or creating space to get his shot off. He is one of the best shooters in the state, has the size to play the two or three position at the next level.
Wertz is a high-level athlete that also gets it done in the classroom. Georgetown, Georgia, Providence and Rhode Island have also recently been in touch with Wertz after a strong first live period. He is currently ranked as the 6th best prospect in the PrepHoopsNC class of 2018 rankings and will see his rating move up when the new rankings are released over the next two weeks.
Wertz, says he will cut his list after the July live period. I would expect some more regional ACC schools to jump on board with Wertz. He has the game to play at the highest level in college basketball. The academic tradition of a school will no doubt play a part in his decision for his future. North Carolina has not offered yet, but keep in mind that his father Langston attended UNC-Chapel Hill as an undergraduate.
