Southern Jam Fest Underclassmen Stock Boosters Part 2
HAMPTON, VA — Southern Jam Fest is in the books, and many players made strong statements in an event packed with top notch talent. Below we highlight the underclassmen who boosted their stock with a consistently strong run of play over the weekend.
MARVIN PRICE | DC BLUE DEVILS
Patterson guard Marvin Price is clearly a strong competitor, and cares about winning. The 6’5 lefty pumped in 32 for DCBC in a hotly contested matchup with K Low elite. Price shot the ball well from deep, but also attacked the rim strong. One thing we liked was how well he passed to others after his drives to the paint.
KHYREE TEMPLE | BOO WILLIAMS
Boo Williams scored a win over Team St8ment in the final four, and Khyree Temple led the charge with 23 points. The explosive guard out of Phoebus could not be kept out of the lane, and did a nice job dishing to others when the help came. When Temple’s shot is on from deep, he proved to be a very difficult cover.
’20 CAMERON THOMAS | BOO WILLIAMS
Cameron Thomas was on the short list of not only the best shooters, but best scorers at Southern. The 6’2 guard displays a frame which has some room to grow, but is already strong and highly skilled. Thomas is an assassin from deep off the catch, and has a nice middle game as well.
CHARLES THOMPSON | TEAM TAKEOVER
One of the most improved players we’ve seen over the last six months has been Charles Thompson. Now a starter for the , Thompson is becoming increasingly skilled and confident. The long & broad shouldered 6’8 big man appears to still be growing, and is becoming more coordinated.
JOSH WATTS | TEAM TAKEOVER
Josh Watts was a breakout performer for Team Takeover during this tournament. The 6’4 guard shot it well from deep, and attacked the basket strong in transition. Watts defended well, and generally made high IQ plays all over the floor.
’20 TERRANCE WILLIAMS | TEAM TAKEOVER
One of the more unheralded freshman all year has been Terrance Williams of Gonzaga, but his production has been as consistent as any we’ve seen. The versatile 6’7 forward is a matchup problem on the perimeter as a result of his ability to shoot, but can also go inside and bang with bigger players.
