Recruiting Report: Tristen Mysen (2018)
A reserve on a state champion squad this past winter, Clarkston’s 6-foot-6 power forward Tristen Mysen has an especially important 17U summer ahead of him.
Though he didn’t see a ton of playing time with the Wolves, he has been noticed by some Midwest colleges while playing this spring, and hopes that by summer’s end he can have his first offer in tow.
“I’ve been contacted by Kalamazoo College a lot, and Lake Forest in Chicago has contacted me a lot; those are the main schools that are coming after me the hardest. Then I’ve had camp invites from a lot of other schools as well,” said Mysen.
“I’m hoping to get on the radar of some D2, maybe even D1 schools, so I can get myself a scholarship eventually.”
With great size and above average athleticism, Mysen — Michigan’s 66th-ranked 2018 — says rebounding and defense are strengths of his.
“My biggest strength is my athleticism, for being pretty tall, I run the floor a lot better than most guys my height do,” he said. “I jump pretty well, so I get a lot of rebounds and contest shots and stuff like that.”
As a junior with Clarkston, he was coming off the bench, but says practice is where he learned the most about his game.
“My role was to come in when I was needed, and just defend and rebound and just put the ball in the hoop when I needed to,” said Mysen.
“Practices everyday were really high competition level, and it pushed me to be my best 100 percent of the time — it really showed me what I need to work on as a player.”
He’s now in the middle of his grassroots season with North Oakland Wolfpack, a team he plays on with several of his Clarkston teammates.
“On that team I primarily play the four and five,” said Mysen. “And there’s a lot of guys from my high school team on that team, so my role is about the same; defend and rebound, and run the floor.”
