Recruiting Report: Steele Senske (2018)
Steele Senske was one of the top scorers in Class A basketball this winter and his 41 points in a game broke the school record. Prep Hoops caught up with Steele to discuss basketball.
“This past year brought me several great basketball and growth experience,” Steele said. “As a team, our Park Christian School had some big wins this past year and they were exciting.
“We were the first to beat a rated Lake Park-Audubon team early in the year and we also beat another good Hillcrest Academy team in our first round of playoffs. Also, we were able to improve on our record from last year.
“Next year we see more challenges as a team after graduating/losing a few very important players. With those changes, I anticipate that next year will be more challenging.”
Senske scored 27-28 a game over the winter and earned his status as one of the best Class A players in the state. Steele has high aspirations for the future as well.
“I played a different role this school season and had to look to score more from the point guard position,” Senske explained. “Most of my points came from pulling up with jump shots at the three-point line or the free throw line.
“The pressure to produce every game was definitely felt. Having a support group cheering you on every game was one comfort that our fans gave to me. My take-a-way from this year is that I’ve learned that change is constant and being able to adapt to change is the key.
“So, it is important to continually build on your current basketball skills but stay flexible. You just never know what this game will bring you around the next corner.”
It’s been a busy spring for Steele who is competing in track and field plus playing for Comets Servaty. The 6-foot-3 Senske rarely has a quiet night.
“My track workouts keep me thin and quick but next basketball season I’ll need to produce every game,” Senske said. “I’ll need to shed multiple defenders and the one key that will give me the edge every night is power and strength. So, in addition to my shooting time I’ll be putting more energy into lifting.”
As for Comets Servaty they are starting to play better improving their record to 14-10. Comets Servaty is playing in the NY2LA Basketball League so the team is facing a high level of competition every night.
“I love the game and enjoy playing at a high level with the Comets 17 U team,” Senske stated. “I get to play with and against some of the best players in the surround states.
“Since playing with the Comets I’ve made adjustments to my game. I usually have the ball in my hands more, but in order to produce on an All-star team you have to pick your moments in a game and take advantage of opportunities on the floor.
“The rest of the time you are working to set up your teammates. The first few Comets events have helped me adjust to playing with very skilled teammates.”
Steele has the skill, agility, explosive bounce, and competitive edge to play college basketball. Several levels are talking to him.
“I’ve been focused on finishing the school year, running track, and playing AAU. I’ve been contacted by schools in the Summit League, NSIC, MIAC, and NAIA leagues.
“I’m currently putting together a pros and cons list of schools. This summer looks like it will be busy with AAU, camps, and summer league play. I’ll have a better idea at the end of the summer.”
