Recruiting Report: Kyler Bell (2018)
A key guard with one of Iowa’s best grassroots teams, 6-foot Cedar Rapids Jefferson guard Kyler Bell has been one of the better surprises in the state this season.
Currently unranked, Bell will certainly make his debut in the forthcoming updated 2018 rankings. But it’s not just us a Prep Hoops Iowa that have noticed the athletic guard, college coaches are getting involved with him too.
“I’ve gotten a few letters from Simpson, some from Coe and Mount Mercy. I’ve also gotten some from schools down south, like Oklahoma Baptist,” said Bell.
“I’m just hoping to get higher level stuff this summer. I’m striving for high D2, and I just want to get my first offer this summer.”
A combo-guard, who can score at the rim with blow-by ability or be his team’s top facilitator, Bell defined his skill-set in his own words to PHIA.
“I’m an athletic guard that likes to play tough defense and get buckets on offense,” said Bell. “Heading into my senior season, I think I need to improve my 3-point shooting and my ball-handling.”
His junior season with the J-Hawks wrapped up a couple months ago, Bell averaged 10.2 points and a team-best 2.0 steals per game.
“I played good defense, and was aggressive on offense while taking it to the hoop. And I thought I did a good job of finding open teammates,” said Bell.
“I feel like I could have played a little better this year, and next season I’m looking to be the man and looking to score more on offense.”
Now, he’s midway through his 17U offseason with Iowa Mavericks Purple, one of Iowa’s best travel teams.
“I like playing with that team, and we’ve got some really good players,” said Bell. “I just control the ball on that team, look for teammates, things like that.”
