Recruiting Report: Cade Daugherty (2018)
Bellevue’s 6-foot-1 guard Cade Daugherty is due for a significant bump in the next installment of 2018 rankings, and has used a big spring with Tri-State Steam to bolster his stock.
After a tremendous junior season with the Comets, and some terrific performances in camps and tournaments this spring, some college programs have started to take notice.
“I’ve gotten a few emails; Crown College up in Minnesota emailed me, Queens College in Charlotte emailed me. Also Wisconsin-Oshkosh, I like them, they’re really good,” said Daugherty.
“That’s about it for now, I’m really hoping to get some more.”
The Queens College interest is an outlier in that group, an East Coast school when all the others are Midwest programs.
“I’ have no idea (how they found me),” said Daugherty. “They just sent me some emails saying they want me to go to a couple of their camps.”
Quick and bouncy with an above average skill-level, Daugherty says that his game is predicated on staying versatile, and being a positive influence on the court.
“I like to consider myself an all-around guard; I don’t want to just be a shooter, just a driver, I like to try and do everything I can. And off the court, I just try to be a positive leader to my teammates,” said Daugherty.
Though he averaged 18.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last winter with the Comets, he says his main focus wasn’t necessarily to score and rebound, but to be a positive influence for his younger teammates.
“On the court I tried being a leader,” said Daugherty. “We had a young team, so I wanted to be a role-model and a positive player to all of our younger players.”
He’s now in the middle of his 17U season with one of Iowa’s talented programs, Tri-State Steam.
“We’re a pretty good team, and my role is to keep it upbeat and be positive; I try not to ever be negative. I just try and make a play whenever I need to,” said Daugherty, who says his goal is to win some tournaments and get some D2 looks.
“I’m hoping to maybe get a couple of D2 looks, that’s my goal for college ball. And to win a few tournaments would be nice. We’re a newer team, so as we get more comfortable with each other, I’m thinking we can win a few tournaments.”
