Prospect Spotlight: Tyler Ricketts (2019)
As a freshman with one of the best basketball programs in Washington, 6-foot-1 Union combo-guard Tyler Ricketts played up with the JV.
This spring and summer, he’s prepared to put in the work to make himself ready for a possible spot with the varsity next winter.
He’ll look to improve his already established shooting ability, and make himself a more formidable ball-handler.
“When I’m out there on the floor I try to look for my teammates and make sure they’re getting buckets. I’m pretty lengthy and big so I try and drive a lot and I find my teammates that way,” said Ricketts.
“On defense I make sure we do everything we can, because defense is the key to offense.”
He added: “I’m planning to improve on my shooting, and I’m trying to work on my leaping ability. I’m trying to work on my handling, I’m an OK dribbler now, but I want to be better.”
With the Titans JV last winter, Ricketts says his role was to be a shooter, and he played that role well.
“My role was the shooting guard, I was a really good shooter for us, I really worked on it. I really tried to make an impact in whatever way I could, so I just turned into a shooter.” said Ricketts.
“I’m hoping next summer I’ll be with the varsity if I keep working on my game this summer.”
He’s currently spending his spring with ABA 15U, and says things have been going very well for he and his teammates.
“Our spring is going really well right now. We have a team of friends, but we don’t goof around, we try and get the job done,” said Ricketts.
“I’ve been playing really well, I’ve been working hard so I can make the varsity squad next year. I’m going to try and excel at my shooting, my driving and my dribbling, just everything.”
