Prospect Spotlight: Sam Glenn (2019)
An up-and-comer in Iowa’s 2019 class, Grand View Christian guard Sam Glenn is one of the lengthier prospects in the state, and it shows on the court.
Defensively, he makes a huge impact on the game, and he’s working this summer with Beyond Ball 16U to hone his offensive game.
Glenn defined his skill-set in his own words to PHIA.
“I really try and keep the energy up, and I consider myself a shooter and try and get myself and my teammates open shots,” he said. “I’m really working on my offense right now; just trying to get myself going so I can get others going as well.”
As a sophomore with the state champion Thunder, Glenn came off the bench and averaged 4.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
“My role was to get defensive one-on-one stops, and I feel like I could have done a little better at that, and I’ve been working a lot on that as well,” said Glenn.
“It was a good season though, we won the state championship, which was awesome, it was a great experience and next year I really hope to get back there.”
His goals for his sophomore season?
“I’m hoping to be more of a leader and not just a role player anymore,” he said. “I just want to get better and take over games when I need to.”
In the meantime, Glenn will work on his game this summer, and is doing so with a newcomer to the Iowa grassroots scene, Beyond Ball 16U.
“John (Lamb) is an amazing coach, and once we start focusing more on the details, our games will be so much easier to close,” said Glenn. “We’re just a bunch of misfits, but somehow we’re making it work, and we can be a great team if we really work at it.”
Another goal for Glenn this summer is to see his recruitment begin to take shape.
“I haven’t had any coaches talk to me yet, I’ve gotten a couple letters from Central,” he said. “And I’m hoping that picks up a little during the July live periods. And if not, then definitely next year.”
