Prospect Spotlight: Phillip Dromgoole Jr. (2018)
The Minnesota Comets AAU program has expanded in a big way in the recent years. They still get their share of quality players from the St. Cloud area though.
Phillip Dromgoole, a point guard from St. Cloud Apollo is one of the top players for Comets Little, one of the top grassroots 17U teams in the state.
So far the team is 12-7 on the season with a handful of good wins. Dromgoole thinks they can do even better.
“I think we’ve been playing well,” said Dromgoole. “I think we’ve got some good basketball coming too. We haven’t been at our best yet.”
Dromgoole’s in his first year playing with the Comets and he’s been quick to make an impact as he’s not only one of the team’s top playmakers but also arguably the team’s best perimeter defender. He’s got active hands and does a great job fighting through screens and deflecting passes on and off the ball.
“I love guarding the other team’s best player,” said Dromgoole. “That’s a challenge I always want to help our team win. Talking and being a ballhawk, getting my hands on passes; getting teammates going. I love that part of the game.”
The 6-foot-1 guard is an unselfish offensive player too and excels at getting into the lane and either finding a teammate for a layup or open jumpshot or using creativity to finish over length.
Dromgoole’s gotten a little bit of interest from local colleges but he said he’s hoping to draw more interest throughout the rest of the spring and summer ahead of his senior year.
