Prospect Spotlight: Nick Pepin (2020)
One in a very talented crop of youngsters at Waterloo West, 5-foot-9 point guard Nick Pepin is all about the Ws, and making his teammates better.
A true point guard with a pass-first mentality, Pepin defined his style of play to PHIA.
“I’m more of a point guard that wants to make the team better; team before the individual. And I love the game and when I’m on the floor I like to get everyone to play together and with chemistry,” he said.
“I’ve been a point guard since the third grade, and it’s kind of second nature to me.”
This past winter as a freshman with the Wahawks, Pepin was good, averaging 6.4 points, 3.3 assists and just north of a steal per game.
“I think we did pretty good for a young team, and I think I played pretty well for a freshman. It was a just a good season for us,” he said.
This spring and summer he’s running with one of the Midwest’s best 15U squads, Martin Brothers.
“Me being a point guard with that team, I think I can run it well and make my teammates look good, but also at the same time they can make me look good too,” said Pepin, who’s hoping to rack up as many wins as possible this summer.
“I’m just hoping to beat the best of the best teams. And going up against the best competition helps us, especially with the physical part of the game,”
He added: “And as long as we come together and help each other out, I think we can do that. We just need to have good chemistry.”
