Prospect Spotlight: Jacob Schockemoehl
One of the more skilled players in Iowa’s 2020 class, 5-foot-11 combo-guard Jacob Schockemoehl could be on the verge of becoming a breakout star in Iowa.
With some silky handles and a smooth stroke from deep, he’s able to both score and distribute adeptly. The Dubuque Wahlert product defined his skill set in his own words to PHIA.
“I just like to lead as a player, I’ve been working on that this past season. I love to shoot the 3-ball and I have a pretty good mid-range,” said Schockemoehl. “I need to work on my mid-range still though, I’ve been working on that all season, and finishing at the rim.”
As a freshman, Schockemoehl played up with the sophomore team where he was the leading scorer. He also relished the opportunity to play with his older brother.
“It was a great experience, and my brother is a sophomore, so I got to play with his friends and get to know them for the upcoming season too,” said Schockemoehl.
“Practice was kind of like Barnstormers AAU, but a lot more intense and quicker pace. I played a pretty big role and started all games. I averaged around 20 points per game, and that was my role, was to score the ball, pretty much.”
This summer he’s playing with one of the state’s better 15U squads, Iowa Mavericks Purple.
“It’s been a great year, I love the guys I play with. Tyler Cleveland is a great coach, he knows what he’s doing and tries to develop us as kids as well as players,” said Schockemoehl.
“Basketball-wise, we’re a very good team and very talented all-around.”
The goals for this spring and summer? Stay on top of his skill-level, and maybe get some recruitment start to come in,
“I’m hoping to start and get noticed by coaches and just get stronger and see what happens from there,” said Schockemoehl.
“It’s (recruitment) always in the back of my mind, but for right now I’m just trying to develop as a player and keep my skill level high. And hopefully over the summer I get looked at and get my name out there.”
