Meet The Player: Devonte Pettaway
North Pitt HS Guard Devonte Pettaway had an outstanding season, he finished the season averaging over 20 PPG and would receive scholarship offers from Mars Hill, Saint Andrews University as well as interest for a large amount of division two schools. He’s a quick but strong guard that has a natural gift to score the ball with ease. Just as recently as Tuesday he verbally committed to the Saint Andrews University Knights in Laurinburg, NC. It’s a bigtime pickup for St. Andrews as they are looking to build on some of the success they had last season. This Friday Devonte will make it official as he will sign with Saint Andrews and end a very impressive senior year, yesterday we got the chance to talk with Devonte about his senior season, recruitment and some of the things he does on game day to prepare himself to play.
Q: So you played in an area of the state where you competed with a lot of talented guards, do you feel that helped you prepare for the next level? How was the experience at Fab 40?
Devonte: I played against many tough guards before. It was a test I believe the exposure helped me become a better player.
Q: What was it about St. Andrews that you really liked?
Devonte: What I liked about Saint Andrews is soon as I got there I felt more welcome like a family. I just grew to their system fast.
Q: Favorite Player in the NBA to watch?
Devonte: My favorite player to watch is Russell Westbrook. My man is relentless. I characterize my game after him a lot.
Q: Anything in particular you do on game day to prepare yourself to play?
Devonte: Game day I prepare myself by reading a bible verse and listen to music to stay motivated.
Q: Favorite Music artist?
Devonte: Favorite music artist J Cole.
