Meet The Player: Dakari Johnson
Village Christian & Garner Road Guard Dakari Johnson started the spring evaluation period as one of the most underrated prospects but slowly but surely things are changing. He’s scoring the ball at a high rate and bringing it on the defensive end of well which has impressed college coaches of every level. We got a chance to speak with Dakari about how the high school season went and how the first live periods have gone for him.
Q: You came into Village and helped lead the team to a championship which was the teams 2nd in a row, was that a goal you had before you got there?
Dakari: Yessir. My whole goal was to win me a state championship before I left high school.
Q: We see the smaller guards like Isaiah Thomas in the NBA doing very well , is there any guard In particular you watch ?
Dakari: Damian Lillard. Small guard that can score, defend and lead his team, very much like me.
Q: Favorite NBA Player & Favorite NBA Team?
Dakari: Russel Westbrook and the LA Lakers.
Q: Anything in particular you do on game day to prepare for the game?
Dakari: Before games I do the same stretching routine, put a piece of gum in my sock, drink a bottle of water and pray.
Q: We have seen your recruitment pick up quite a bit as of late, what schools have been calling?
Dakari: Lately I picked up and offer from Towson and already had Longwood but Winthrop, furman, UVA, Rutgers, UNCC, George Washington University, wake forest, Clemson, rice, and couple others schools reached out.
Q: Goals for the rest of the summer and next year?
Dakari: My goals for the rest of the summer is to pick up as many offers as I can while, continue to grind in the gym getting bigger fast and stronger every single day. Next year I look to win another state championship making it two in a roll before I end my high school career.
