Grassroots : Big Shots-Wilmington-Flight 22 Elite
Prep Hoops SC enjoyed the 2 hour drive north to the Port City of Wilmington, NC this past weekend. Flight 22 Elite is coached by Nathan Faulk. Faulk oversees the whole Flight 22 brand.
Rob Peterson (2017) and Jake Brownlee (2018) were not here in attendance this weekend for Flight 22 Elite. Tyler French recently committed to Belmont Abbey (NC) (NCAA D2). French 6’11 played at Moravian Prep (NC) this past season and attended Laney HS (Wilmington).
Kenny Dye (2018) Northside HS (Jacksonville) – Flight 22 Elite (pictured on front)
Dye is fresh off a State Championship at Northside HS this season. Dye hit several pull-up mid-range jumpers today Dye has the ability to create his own shot when needed. Dye seems a perfect teammate as he is very vocal on the floor and on the bench cheering on his teammates. Dye 6’0 point guard averaged 12.4 ppg, 6.5 assists and 2.9 steals this season for the 30-0 Monarchs. The Monarchs defeated North Surry HS 86-67 in the championship back in March.
Bryce Ahrens (2018) West Brunswick (Shallotte) – Flight 22 Elite
Ahrens 6’4 is a slender-sleek wing player. Ahrens can stroke the 3 ball or pop off screens for open looks.
Cole Atwood (2018) Wayne Country Day (Goldsboro) – Flight 22 Elite
Atwood seemed to be a bit of a one trick pony on the floor. Atwood was on the floor to hit shots.
Ricky Council III (2018) Northern HS (Durham) – Flight 22 Elite
Council III 5’11 guard hit some mid-range jumpers today and played steady defense. Council III always seemed to be in the right position on the floor. Older brother Ricky II recently left Providence and transferred to UMBC .
Jalin Thorne (2018) Westover HS (Fayetteville) – Flight 22 Elite
Thorne 6’8 averaged 9.9 ppg and 5 rebounds this season at Westover HS. Thorne swatted away 3.3 blocks per game. Thorne runs the floor and has very good length. Thorne seemed to be very active on the offensive glass. Thorne hit a few 12-14 footers today with his soft touch. South Carolina State University has shown early interest in Thorne this spring.
John Michael Wright (2019) Fayetteville Academy – Flight 22 Elite
Wright 6’1 point guard was named Coastal River Conference Player of the Year and was Coastal River Tourney Player of the Year this past season. Wright had no problems getting into the lane today and really shows great explosion. Wright really rebounds well for his size and plays with a lot of toughness and desire. Wright has received interest from Marshall University this spring.
