Dru Joyce Classic: Wings/Forwards
Throughout today, we will recap this past weekend’s Dru Joyce Classic by evaluating players by position.
More specifically, the players who weren’t written about yesterday. For the players who were evaluated yesterday, those articles will be linked to below their names.
Without further ado …
Drew Johnson (2018), 6’5” W/F, Northwest Ohio Basketball Club / Pandora Gilboa
First of all, Johnson might belong in the guard article. He’s primarily a perimeter player, especially offensively, who uses his size to finish over guys.
Time and again when we were able to watch NWO, defenders applied heavy pressure to Johnson. Johnson didn’t entirely respond in the most impressive way. However, he did score on a few straight line drives in these situations. If you’re not going to guard him, he’ll take the three-pointers all day. Excited to continue watching Johnson, he’s interesting.
Jake Dible (2018), 6’6” PF, Northwest Ohio Club / Ottawa-Glandorf
Luka Eller (2020), 6’6” W/F, NEO Shooting Stars / Lake Catholic
Dante’ Wheeler (2020), 6’4” W/F, Northwest Ohio Basketball Club / Elida
Aaron Ward (2020), 6’6” W/F, All Ohio Elite / Cincinnati Princeton
Marcus Johnson (2020), 6’4” PF, NEO Shooting Stars / St. Vincent St. Mary
Johnson is one of these guys who looks like he should be playing defensive end or tight end for Ohio State in 2021. But then, he’s very skilled as a basketball player. Johnson likes to catch, size up his defenders, then attack off the bounce. “Attack” meaning, with the drive or with the pull-up jumper — he’s actually more prone to shoot it, even. Regardless, Johnson scores the ball with ease, as his size and skill leaves the defense in a predicament.
