Catching up with Star 2019 Forward Joey Baker
Kansas, NC State, UCLA, Florida, the list of scholarships for Joey Baker at this point is a who’s who of college basketball coaches and programs. However things didn’t come easy for the young man, it’s been a process for him since he started playing varsity as an 8th grader at Trinity Christian. We got the chance to talk with Joey today and catch up on his recruitment as well as finding out some of his goals for the rest of the summer and fall.
Q: So how do you feel the season at Trinity went this year?
Joey: I think we had a pretty good season. Of course there were bumps in the road but we were a close group that enjoyed playing together. We had fun and got after it.
Q: You’ve been playing varsity since 8th grade so you feel that’s helped you develop and learn?
Joey: Playing varsity since 8th grade has helped me learn how to make an impact on the game without scoring. My first year I only averaged 5 points so I had to find other things to help my team win.
Q: You have quite a few offers now , one of them recently from Kansas , how’s it feel to get an offer from the Jayhawks and are you looking forward to coaches being able to talk to you personally in June ?
Joey: It’s honesty humbling. I work extremely hard so for people to notice that work it feels good and makes me want to work harder. I’d say I’m pretty excited to be able to text coaches I’m looking forward to build relationships and narrow my list.
Q: Typical day in the offseason for you?
Joey: Depends on the day. I always try to spend 60-90 minutes getting better no matter what.
Goals for the remainder of the summer and going into next season?
Joey: My goal for the remainder of the summer and going into next season is to just keeping improving. I feel like if I keep getting better everything else will take care of its self.
