Unsigned Senior Alert: Samson Strickland
If I were to tell you that there was a 6’5 player that averaged 19 Points, 11 rebounds and 3 Blocks this season and has a very high GPA and SAT score that is still unsigned late in April you would probably think I’m lying. Well that’s exactly the case for Fike HS Forward Samson Strickland, after a very impressive senior high school season he is still unsigned and although some schools have showed interest he still available for schools to grab. In March I got my first chance to get a very good look at Samson Strickland for the first time at the East NC Fab 40 Camp and I must say I was very impressed with how this young man played.
What makes him special?
Samson is the type of player that you don’t have to run plays for, he has a high motor and a understanding of how to rebound the ball so he gets quite a few of his points off put backs and running the floor. He has a very solid frame and although he is 6’5, he can battle inside with much taller opponents not only due to his strength but also because of how much heart he has. Throughout the event I saw him block shots, dive for loose balls, rebound at a high rate, and finish above and below the rim. He doesn’t force things and never seems to try and do more than what he is comfortable with, he can knock down shots from midrange pretty efficiently and has solid lateral quickness so guarding multiple positions isn’t too much of an issue for him.
Recruitment
As of now he has received interest from numerous colleges on the JUCO level as well as the D3 level, it is surprising that a few D2’s haven’t dialed his number up or invited him in for a workout just yet. He would be a nice fit for an up-tempo style team has he can be a player that gets rebounds offensively and defensively and quickly out into transition for easy offensive buckets.
