Top Sophomores to Watch This Summer
The rising junior class for the state of North Carolina is a loaded one, that many believe can rival the class of 2018 based on interest and college offers so far. Here is a look at some of the top sophomores to watch this summer.
6’5, SF Joey Baker of Trinity Christian/Team Felton-Baker already has offers from NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Boston College, East Carolina, Western Carolina, Charlotte, Virginia Tech, Texas, Florida, Providence, and Hofstra. His best attribute is his basketball IQ. He is off the charts with his understanding of the game and putting the basketball in the right place.
6’6 SF/SG Wendell Moore of Cox Mill High School/Team CP3-Fresh off a NCBCA State Player of the Year award and a 3-A state championship for Cox Mill High School, Moore is the youngest player to ever receive a scholarship offer from North Carolina’s Roy Williams.
6’6 SF Greg Gantt of Team Felton/Trinity Christian-Nobody has had quite the end to the regular season and the beginning of the summer travel circuit as Gantt. At 6’7 he is comfortable playing the stretch forward spot but can also move over and play the wing position as well. He has no issue banging inside with big men but can step outside and compete with wings and guards as well, which is something that you have to love from a player that is his age, said PrepHoopsNC’s analyst Charles Clark.
6’1 SG JC Tharrington of Team United/Charlotte Christian-Blessed with a high basketball IQ, Tharrington always makes the right decision when the ball is in his hands. Has a knack for the ability create plays, has a natural feel for the game and has the characteristics of a true leader on the floor at all times.
6’5 SG/SF Josh Nickelberry of Team Loaded/Trinity Christian-The last of the three-headed monster at Trinity Christian, Nickelberry may be the best of the three. He is a athletic small forward who can play the guard position and can score it. He has offers from North Carolina, Baylor, Clemson, among others.
