Team South Carolina 17U Breakdown
Team South Carolina, under the SC Raptors Elite umbrella of teams has long been one of The Palmetto States’ premier AAU organizations. Lamont Simmons leads the group and year in and year out competes with some of the best teams in the country. Some new faces thrown in with some familiar ones have molded Team South Carolina into a team to not be taken lightly. This past weekend, Lamont Simmons and Mike Alexander of Team South Carolina put on the Ashton Arnold Invitational Tournament in Easley, South Carolina. This was my first time seeing Team South Carolina this season and I left nothing short of impressed.
Raymond Williams and Tuzion Brock are the keys to this team, when Ray-J and Brock go so does the team. Both are good in the open floor, can attack the basket, have really good court awareness and vision, and can shoot the basketball.
Josh WaltonA new face that seem to be fitting in well, is Josh Walton, a 6-foot-5 wing/forward from Asheville, North Carolina. He is athletic and big shouldered. He is still learning the pace of the game with his new team but he is on pace. He comes from a small town in Oklahoma and is just getting used to how much faster the game is on the high level AAU circuit. Walton is going to be a player to watch over the next few years.
Another scoring option is Southside High School point guard Jalen McKelvey. The senior helped lead Southside to the 3-A state championship and was named Player of the Year. McKelvey is a scoring point guard and can provide a scoring touch and quickness for Team South Carolina.
Darius Johnson is another one for Team South Carolina that can shoot it. Really impressed with his form and high elevation on shot. Knows how to score the basketball.
Big man Sam Tyner out of Easley High School, looks like he is about 6-foot-9 now, Tyner is a big-time rebounder and is improving his post play. He averaged in high double figures during the high school season in rebounds.
