Swish N’ Dish: Derrick’s Saturday Dimes
Saturday PrepHoopsIllinois was back at NY2LA Swish N’ Dish for another day of play, I was at Homestead High School to check out 17U and 16U action. Here is a look at some standouts from games I scouted on Saturday in Swish N Dish: Derrick’s Saturday Dimes!
PG- Joseph Yesufu 5’10 (2019) Meanstreets
Running with the Meanstreets this year Joseph Yesufu out of Bolingbrook HS. Was impressive in day 2. Yesufu set the tone with his defensive play. His on-ball defense was fundamentally sound, and he played the passing lanes well resulting in turnovers and points on the other end. On offense Yesufu finished with a team high 16 points their win over Lifezone 360. Compact at 5’10 he is strong to the rim and uses his quick feet and athletic to get to the hole and finish. Yesufu has a solid couple of days at Swish N Dish as he dropped 28 points in the opener Friday. He was an instrumental part of Bolingbrook’s state run and it looks like he will continue his impressive play this spring.
PG- Anthony Lynch 6’3’’ (2018) Kessel Heat
Blue collar guy that brings a lot of grit and effort. Anthony Lynch did a solid job getting his team in their half court sets on offense. Had success slashing to the basket in transition for scores and showed the ability to know when to drive and kick it out to teammates. He showed he can knock shots down from the perimeter, and has good form on his shot. Surprised me when he took off for the two-hand slam out in transition sneaky hops and athleticism. Finished with 17 pts in a win in the game I saw. D2 to small college prospect.
WF- Jordan Morris 6’6’’ (2018)- Kessel Heat
The 6’6’’ Forward out of Proviso East was a force inside, and out on in transition for Kessel. Worked the baseline well and attacked off the dribble. Major athlete who can play above the rim. He threw down two monster dunks in the second half of the game I scouted one of which was a windmill. He is a leaper who went up and grabbed some big offensive boards.
PF-Tamell Pearson 6’9’’ (2018)- Mac Irvin Fire
Pearson got off to a hot start for the Fire asserting himself early in the match-up I scouted. Got out the gates with two nice moves showing he can score with his back to the basket. Pearson showed improvement on his shot from outside stretching the floor and hitting a 3. Defensively he was a rim protector blocking shots and grabbing rebounds for the Fire. Has really improved his handles showing that he can handle it out on the break. A big summer could boost Pearson’s stock especially if he can continue to stretch the floor and hit shots from the perimeter.
PG- Chase Adams 5’8’’ (2018) Wisconsin Playground Elite EYBL
Adams had a day distributing the ball for Playground Elite. Adams had slick handles and is ultra-quick out in transition could be the top passer not named Darius Garland in the 17s. He was about to get out and find his shooters as well as wing and post players cutting to the basket for some easy scores. Puts good zip on his passes but also knows when to add some touch. With good shooter and playmakers all around him he should continue to rack up assist for Playground elite.
G- Lance Jones 6’0’’ (2019) Meanstreets
Jones out of Evanston had a nice day shooting the rock hitting three triples against Lifezone 360. Jones was a threat from out on the perimeter but also off the dribble at 6’0’’ he plays a lot bigger and doesn’t mind getting physical or getting going down to the paint where he a solid rebounder from the guard spot. Jones finished with 14 points in the win.
G- Justin Hardy 6’5’’ (2018) Illinois Wolves UAA
Hardy a 6’5’’ guard from St Charles East HS had one of the top shooting performances of the day for the Illinois Wolves knocking down 5 three pointers in a contest vs Champaign Wolverines a catch and shoot guy with good size from the guard spot. Good release on his shot with solid mechanics.
