Recruiting Report: Tyler Joest (2018)
Class of 2018 post Tyler Joest is a 6’8” power forward from Breese Central that has intrigued us throughout his high school career. He has a long and lanky body. Will need to add strength going forward to play at the college level. Solid skill level for the junior. Decent footwork in the post as he can use a spin move and hook shot to score. Can put it on the deck a couple times. Length plays well on the defensive end. Overall seems a lot more coordinated and confident in his game than earlier in his career. D2 upside.
Joest chatted with PHI about his junior campaign.
“It went pretty deep in the post season which not many people thought we could. I didn’t play up to where I thought I could be, but that will come next year with being a senior. I averaged about 11 points per game as a junior.”
What does he see as the strengths of his game?
“I can play on the inside and can go on the outside and hit the three. I can handle the ball a little.”
He plays with Gateway Illinois 17U on the circuit.
“I love playing with this team. They give me more opportunities. They let me play all around the floor. If I get the rebound I can push it.”
Joest seems much more coordinated and comfortable in his long and lanky frame now than he did early in his career.
“I have slowed down growing so now I can fit in and do what I need to do.”
One college has shown some interest early on.
“Belmont has been talking to me. I like how they shoot the three ball. Everybody comes off the bench and it looks like a fun place to play.”
