Recruiting Report: Oman Oman (2017)
Senior Austin forward Oman Oman was a consistent and key piece to Austin’s 2016-2017 success. The 6-5 skilled big man averaged 7.9 PPG for the Packers en route to an appearance in the Class AAA title game.
They ended up losing to DeLaSalle, but the title run was huge for Austin spirit. The “Red Sea” consistently brought an incredible number of fans to each game last week.
“The state run was great,” Oman told NHR. “It was fun playing on that stage and having the town of Austin fully support us. Bonding with the group of guys for one last time was fun, too.”
While the Gach twins and Tate Hebrink were flying around and pushing the pace, Oman remained a consistent force down low. He was willing to do any kind of extra work to help out the Packers.
“I think I improved on my game by just trying to be a leader and helping out wherever my team needed me,” Oman said.
Oman’s basketball future will likely continue at a local community college, and there is a host of options in front of him.
“The colleges that are looking at me are RCTC, Riverland, Iowa Central and NDSCS,” Oman said. “I haven’t visited any yet, but I plan on taking a visit to Iowa Central on Wednesday and to the other schools soon. My major isn’t set yet, but I’ll probably study sports management.”
Oman is one of the state’s top uncommitted forwards.
