Recruiting Report: Keegan Murray (2019)
One of 2019’s biggest risers, 6-foot-3 guard Keegan Murray was a guy we thought might have a breakout sophomore season, and he did just that.
The lengthy and skilled Cedar Rapids Prairie prospect averaged 9.0 points per game on some very decent shooting (44 percent from deep), and heads into his spring and summer with a full head of steam.
He’ll play with Team Iowa 16U Red during his offseason, and he’s definitely got recruitment on the mind.
“My goal is to get some recruitment this summer, so hopefully I can play in college. We’re playing in a lot of tournaments out of state where we can get some great competition and exposure,” said Murray, who’s got some schools paying attention to him already.
“So far my dad has gotten a couple emails from Illinois State and St. Cloud State saying they want to come watch me play.”
Murray’s dad, Kenyon, played at the Iowa in the early 90s, and he mentioned to PHIA that his son also has some initial interest from Missouri State, Illinois State and Central Michigan.
“Recruitment is on my mind a lot, I really want to play at the next level,” said Keegan. “So I’m really starting to take it seriously.”
A sharpshooter with a 6-foot-6 wing-span, Keegan defined his playing style in his own words.
“One of my strengths is the 3-point shot, and I shot it pretty good this year for as many as I took. One of the things I’m working on is creating my own shot, I’m more of a catch and shoot guy right now,” said Keegan.
“My goal for my (sophomore) season was to hit open shots and to make defensive stops when we needed them, and I think I did that.”
