Recruiting Report: Drew Peterson (2018)
Liberyville 2018 shooting guard Drew Peterson has been outstanding for the Illinois Wolves early in the high school season. At 6’7” he has great size and length. The fluid athlete has always been able to slash and be a playmaker in the open floor. His jump shot consistency has taken his game to another stratosphere. Peterson is able to get his shot off with ease from anywhere on the floor. Feathery shot from both mid-range and three. That has been on display early this spring as he hit tons of pull ups from 15-18 feet off the bounce as well as a few threes off the catch when we have evaluated him. The top 5 2018 prospect is a high-major player that is going to garner a lot of attention this month!
Peterson spoke about his junior campaign at Libertyville.
“From a win/loss standpoint it wasn’t that good, but personally I thought I played pretty well and I tried to help my teammates score. We had a lot of close games that we ended up losing. Overall I thought it was decent.”
The 6’7” wing has great size and has always been able to attack in transition. He has really improved his perimeter shot. That is the area he says he feels has made the biggest improvement.
“I think my three point shooting. I have been really wanting to work toward becoming a knock down shooter. I think that is where I have brought it up to now. Just my ability to create shots. I take my pride in that.”
He will be running with the Illinois Wolves on the UAA circuit this spring. What is he trying to show college coaches?
“I am looking to show that I can guard a one through four. Also be able to play the one through four offensively. I am looking to show my versatility and help my teammates as much as possible to win games.”
Peterson already holds a handful of offers!
“Loyola, Tulane, IUPUI, Kent State, and William & Mary.”
Several others are showing significant interest in his services and will be tracking him with the Wolves.
“Northwestern, Stanford, Purdue, Michigan, Davidson, and Northern Iowa.”
Stanford is a school he has already taken an unofficial visit too.
“I thought it went pretty well. The coaches were great and the campus was awesome. It was a really great visit.”
Northwestern has shown him quite a bit of attention and is intriguing to him.
“Collins almost got coach of the year. He is a phenomenal coach. I love all the coaches there. It is close to home which is good and they played really well this year.”
He is not sure about any other visits this spring as he is focused on playing with the Wolves. We fully expect Peterson to have his choice of several high major programs by the time the spring live period concludes at the end of the month.
