Recruiting Report: Adrian Smith (JUCO)
Rend Lake College sophomore combo guard Adrian Smith stands at 6’3”. The East Aurora High school product was a scorer at the high school level when we saw him and he has continued that at the JUCO level. What you have to like about Smith is his athleticism at the lead guard spot. Quick, strong, and athletic with the rock in his hands. Quality shooter that can stretch it out to the perimeter. Can play both on and off the ball. Plays game with quite a bit of flare.
Smith spoke about his team’s season at Rend Lake.
“It has gone alright, but it hasn’t gone as well as I would have liked. We went 17-12 in the regular season. I am shooting the ball ok. My other stats have gone up from last year so I am improving.”
What does he see as the best part of his game?
“Shooting the ball. I have a mid-range game and dribble pull up. I can attack the basket.”
He talked about improving on the other end of the floor.
“The most I feel I have improved is in my defense. My help defense is way better. I feel I can play defense at a high level.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I talked to a lot of D1 schools during the first semester. I talked to Western Illinois, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Illinois, and SIU. Right now I am mainly talking to a lot of D2 schools. The D1 schools are waiting on my grades. I have talked to Southern Indiana and Drury.”
He told us what he will be looking for in a school.
“The coaching, culture around the school, and a place I feel I am at home.”
