Prospect Spotlight: Will White (2018)
Will White
TOPEKA, Kan. — One of Kansas’ premier energy players, Topeka Highland Park 2018 forward Will White is off to a strong start this spring as he helped Kansas Pray N Play win its opening tournament at the Prep Hoops Kick Off Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
A 6’3 wing player, White is a versatile defender who plays with energy and passion and makes plays at both ends of the floor.
“My game is very poise and under control and I bring energy every time I step on the court, from how I play to how I talk to and pump up my teammates during games,” White said.
Although his high school season didn’t go quite as planned, White says it was a learning experience as he led his squad in assists, steals, was third in rebounding and was the unanimous team MVP.
A fan of Lonzo Ball, White says the biggest influence on his basketball career has been his first coach, Tony Barksdale.
“He’s kept it real with from the jump and he’s the one who taught me basically everything I know about the game,” White said.
This spring he is playing alongside some of the top 2018 players in Kansas, including Larry White, Bryant Mocaby, Devin Davis, Mike Johnson, Mason Alexander, Marko Rajonovic and others.
“It’s been great, we haven’t been together that long but it already feels like a family,” White said.
White says he is working on his shot off the dribble, getting stronger and his all-around game.
Although he does not yet hold any offers, White says he hopes a big spring will lead to college interest.
“I’m waiting to have that talk with my high school coach towards the end of the school year so I can just focus on my grades and getting better at basketball,” White said.
