Prospect Spotlight: Ramon McGrew (2019)
Landry Walker 6-foot-2 shooting guard Ramon McGrew is looking forward to his 16U offseason, and is working to sharpen his skills to where can play a major role with the Charging Bucs next winter.
This past season as a sophomore he played mostly with the JV, and was up with the varsity towards the end of the season.
McGrew says he’s a pass-first guard, and keenly acknowledges that the game is meant to be fun.
“I like to look for my teammates, help get rebounds, and I just like to have fun with the game,” said McGrew. “I think I could improve on my shooting and my handles a little more.”
He’s hoping his large role with the JV can translate to the same role with the varsity next season as a junior.
“I played both JV and varsity; for JV I was one of the main scorers and I did a little bit of everything,” said McGrew.
“Me and my coach, we’re always talking, and he says I’ll have a big role next year. He just needs me to stay in the gym and get better everyday. And that’s what I’m trying to do is try and get better for my team.”
He’ll also be running with Nightriders Elite 16U this spring and summer.
“My role for AAU is to score a lot for my team, and my coach tells me that I really need to step-up, so that’s what I do,” said McGrew.
“My goal is to get a scholarship and win some games with my AAU team, but mostly work on getting a scholarship.”
