Prospect Spotlight: Landon Wolfe (2019)
Effingham’s Landon Wolfe was one of the most productive players in southern Illinois this season and he was only a sophomore. The 2019 wing has quality strength and plays super tough! He continues to improve athletically. Although not the biggest wing he plays bigger than his height scoring in the paint and finishing at a high rate around the rim. Also can light it up from three. Smooth and quick release on his jump shot stretches the defense to beyond the three point arc. Rebounds well for a guard on both ends of the floor. Wolfe is one of those kids that just gets stuff done! He projects early on as a high end D3/NAIA with the chance to elevate to D2 status.
Outstanding season for Effingham as they were among the top southern Illinois squads all season.
“We had a great regular season. We were playing really good. It was good to play with my brother (Grant) and Jacob (Donaldson) for the last time. We had a tough loss in the regional championship that we should have won. Shots weren’t falling at the right time.”
What was his role on the team?
“I was one of our biggest guys so I had to play inside more. My job was to get to the rim a lot more because we had three point shooters. I was our leading rebounder. Knocked down threes and shots when I was open.”
With graduation of his brother Grant Wolfe and McKendree commit Jacob Donaldson it will be Landon’s team the next two seasons.
“We are losing a lot. The next two years I will be the guy. Hopefully we can get a lot of guys that can help with their roles. My game I will move to more of the three if we can get a couple guys to play inside.”
He spoke with us about his game.
“I think I am good at attacking the basket and getting to the rim. I am a pretty good catch and shoot three point guy. I think I am a pretty good offensive rebounder as well.”
Wolfe will be running with the Illinois Bears again on the travel team circuit.
“I am excited. I love AAU. Getting to play against all that competition and traveling around the Midwest with a good group of guys is fun.”
