Prospect Spotlight: Lamontay Daughtery (2020)
Duquoin 2020 small forward Lamontay Daughtery stands at 6’5” with long arms and projectable body. He is playing up on the 16U level with Brad Beal Elite. Daughtery is a plus athlete that can impact the game with that on both ends of the floor. Shot blocking presence on the interior. Defensively he has the physical tools, but will need to get more of a mindset to lock in and get down in a defensive stance. Offensively he flashes with a feathery jumper and slick handles. Not consistent possession to possession. Love his upside as a prospect! Has high-major ability written all over him. Top 5 2020 in state.
Daughtery discussed his freshman season at Duquoin with PrepHoopsIllinois.
“I would say it went pretty well. We did better than last year. Made it to regionals and lost. I think next year we will be pretty good. I think I played pretty good. I played my best. I didn’t have the best defense, but I tried.”
He was a dominant player in grammar school a year ago. What areas did he feel he excelled in his first year of high school basketball?
“I would say I did good getting to the bucket and shooting well.”
Daughtery will be playing with Brad Beal Elite 16U this spring on the Nike EYBL circuit.
“I am really happy that I got moved up. I think we should be really good.”
This should be a good experience for him coming from a small southern Illinois town. The high ceiling freshman will get a chance to play with and against some of the premier prospects in the Midwest most of who will be a year older than him.
