Prospect Spotlight: Corey Dyches (2020)
Corey Dyches turned in an excellent freshman campaign with the 4A State Runner-Up Potomac Wolverines, and has seen his success translate into the AAU season with Team Durant. The dynamic guard helped lead his team to a Championship during Session 1 of the EYBL, and is hoping to turn some heads at the Hoop Group Pitt Jam Fest this weekend.
“I’m an athletic slasher,” said Dyches when asked to explain his game for those who haven’t seen him play.
As we saw earlier this month the DCBD Spring Warmup, Dyches can get to the rim at will. He’s very crafty, and can finish with either hand at various angles. Despite not being a threat from the perimeter, Dyches has the innate ability to score inside the arc. His season high 22 point effort for Potomac this season included 10 two point field goals.
“I think one of the most underrated parts of my game is how well I can beat people off the dribble,” said Dyches. “My decision making has improved a lot, but I still need to work on my shooting.”
A native of Washington, D.C., Dyches moved to Maryland when he was very young, and grew up there. He’s been playing basketball since age five. What can he bring to a college program down the road?
“Winning. We’re gonna win. I don’t like losing.”
