Player Spotlight: Tyron George (2019)
School: Westover
AAU: Team Wall-Dreamville
Height: 6’0
Position: Guard
Class: 2019
Westover High School is well known for some of the athletes that have come through in the past years, guys such as: Eric Maynor (VCU & NBA), Jaiquan Manning (NJCAA All-American), and many more college basketball and football players. Well there is another young man who clearly has the potential to play on the collegiate level and is a multi-sport athlete for the Wolverines. Although Tyron didn’t have a stellar high school season this past year statistically he grew and matured physically and it showed this past weekend while he was playing with Team Wall-Dreamville. He was the leading scorer for the team when they played against a strong Carolina Thunder squad, and seems to be ready to show colleges what he can do during the spring and summer AAU season.
What makes him special?
First of all this young man knows how to score the ball, going into his freshman Coach Stackhouse of Westover noticed it quickly as he stated ‘‘During our time at Team Camps Tryon was our leading scorer in quite a few games, which is impressive for a young man who hasn’t played a minute of varsity basketball yet.’’ Last weekend his ability to score was on full display, he got to the basket at will and knocked down the midrange jumper with high efficiency. Another attribute that impressed me was his strength and athleticism, he can make plays above the rim offensively and came up with a few help side blocks as well using his hops. Also we noticed how well he battled inside for rebounds against opponents that were much taller than him, being a football player as well as a basketball player surely doesn’t hurt when it comes to crashing the boards for him. Westover High School fans can be excited for what the future hold as their backcourt of Tyron & PG Thomas Hendricks will be playing together all summer and will come into next season together as juniors.
