Player Spotlight : Myron Williams (2018)

Height: 6’5
Position: Forward
AAU: NC Nets
If there is any player in the region that can make a case about being slept on, it would be Cape Fear HS big man Myron Williams. Playing with Star PG A.J Baldwin they have teamed up to help Cape Fear compete for a Conference Championship once again this season. With Baldwin leading the County Public schools in Points and Assist for the second straight season he has received quite a bit of recognition and rightfully so. However there is another youngster on the team that has been giving out double/doubles to opponents on a regular basis and you probably don’t know anything about him. Although I got the chance to see Cape Fear this season a few times this season, I got to get a closer look at Myron this weekend at a local NTBA tournament. His team took on Flight 22 which featured standout players are receiving college interest at the D1 and D2 level, so I was very intrigued to see how the matchups would go.
What makes him special?
Clearly he doesn’t average this amount of rebounds by just letting the ball bounce back to him, he goes and gets it with the attitude that each loose ball belongs to his squad. He has a solid frame and uses it to position himself and box out his opponent no matter how much taller they may be than him. Offensively he plays within his skill set and in the flow of the offense, you won’t see him try to go 1 on 1 very often or attempting to do his own thing. He finished inside well but can also knock down the midrange shot, so playing in pick and roll situations seems to fit him pretty well. Last but not least I have to recognize how respectful he is each and every time I see him, he always speaks and is respectful no matter where I may see him. Keep a close eye on this young man as I truly feel that he may be on the prospect board of quite a few more college programs before much longer.
