Player Spotlight: Audiese Toney (2019)
School: Northwood Temple
Class: 2019
AAU: Team United
Position: Guard
We were first introduced to Guard Audiese Toney while he was preparing to play high school basketball in Virginia. My first time seeing him, was at Northwood Temple vs Village Christian during the early part of the season where we could see the potential but he was still getting comfortable. As the season continued on each time we saw him play he got better and better, putting together some triple double performances while spending some time at the PG, SG, and SF spots. He’s already received offers from schools like ECU & Hampton and interest from several other high level D1 programs. Playing for Team United this spring and summer he is a player that colleges should be keeping a close eye on.
What makes him special?
Versatility is a word that comes to mind when you watch Audiese play, as mentioned earlier he had quite a few games this season where he filled the state sheet. Some call him a Point Guard but personally I see him as more of a playmaking wing but he’s comfortable playing the Point Guard spot as well. He’s pretty solid handling the ball and has nice vision combined with a skill for delivering on point passes to teammates. He’s a solid shooter from midrange and getting better shooting from deep, but where he really impresses is getting to the basket and finishing above the rim. One thing I really like about Audiese is the intensity he brings on the defensive side of the ball as well, he uses his height and long wingspan to cause problems for opponents constantly. As we know already the Class of 2019 in North Carolina is loaded with talent and this young man is one to you not only have to add to the list but in the mix with some of the other top players.
