NTBA Eastern Regional Recap
Over the weekend we had the chance to stop in to the Eastern Regional NTBA Tournament held in Fayetteville, NC. Part of the reasons for many of the teams in attendance was not only to compete but to also prepare for a possible bid to the national tournament that will be held in Myrtle Beach later this summer. There were numerous teams that came in to participate and quite a few players that stood out over the three day event, below are some of the players and teams that we were impressed with.
CB Hoops 15U: The CB Hoops team played up a division against all 16U teams, despite playing up a age bracket they didn’t have too much of a problem as they took care of business and won quite a few games by a large margin. This time has a lot of talent and potential but what I appreciated most was how they played the game unselfishly and were one of the more organized teams at the event.
Fayetteville Elite: For the 2nd week in a row, the Fayetteville Elite squad took home the championship, they had quite a few underclassmen on the roster but also a few older player as well. Look out for this team as they will be at some bigger events over the next few weeks and into the live period.
Team Impact Guard Greg McMillian: Shot the ball very well from deep, has a quick release that helps him get his shot off over taller defenders.
Team Impact Guard Derrick Arnette: Had an outstanding scoring performance in the first Pool Play game, he’s a strong guard that gets to his spots pretty easily and has a nice consistent floater.
Fayetteville Elite Forward Telligence Johnson: Telligence had the crowd at Freedom going crazy with his put back dunks. He also was very impressive facilitating for others, it’s no surprise that so many colleges were intrigued by what this young man could do.
Flight 22 Forward Vernon McWhite: Very impressive showing for Vernon, he blocked shots at a very high rate and finished plays inside consistently. As of right now he has narrowed his college choices down to FTCC and Sandhills CC, at 6’7 and still unsigned he would be a nice pickup for either program.
NC Nets Guard Shaquille Granville: Shaquille played very well throughout, he has a certain bounce to his game but is more than just another athletic player. He can knock down shots from midrange pretty well but most importantly he flat out brings it on the defensive end.
