Meet The Player: Eli Hudson (2019)
Q: You’ve improved a lot since the last time I saw you play about a year ago, what do you feel the key has been to your success?
Eli: I’ve just been putting in more work, I got more serious with the game, and I started getting in the gym and working every day, doing extra things to get me better.
Q: What type of things did you do to get yourself more prepared and enhance your abilities?
Eli: I started doing different things to get my body right, lifting weights, going out running miles to get my cardio right, working on ball handling drills and working on my shot a lot more.
Q: You hit about 5 or 6 treys todays in the first game you guys played, is that something you spent a lot of time on getting right?
Eli: I try to get up 500 to 1000 shots per day, it doesn’t matter if I’m at home or in the gym or outside somewhere I just try and get the shots up.
Q: Before you got to CFCA where were you at?
Eli: I was in Vincent middle school, after 8th grade I came to Cape Fear.
Q: What the difference for you coming from your middle school to CFCA?
Eli: Here it’s all about academics, if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do in class then you might as well not even worry about playing, on the court its real serious and you got people on the court all trying to go far with basketball so it’s much different.
Q: You guys have a lot of good guards on your team, does that make practice really competitive?
Eli: Practice always helps up, we go to head to head in practice and there is no holding back. That’s why I think we got a team with some of the strongest guards because we put in a lot of work.
Q: What do you feel your role is with your HS and AAU teams?
Eli: I feel like I bring good shooting ability, I average about 5 treys a game and some games I make more than that.
Q: What’s something you do on game days to prepare yourself?
Eli: My main thing is music, music helps me get my mental right but physically I do a lot of stretching and yoga exercises that really helps me get my body and mental right.
Q: Favorite NBA player? And Why?
Eli: Ray Allen because of his shooting and Ty Lawson because of his court vision, his IQ for the game.
Q: Goals for spring and summer going into next year?
Eli: I really would like to get a scholarship offer under my belt as well as building a strong bond with my teammates.
Q: You have quite a few international players on your team, how do you guys break down that barrier?
Eli: Well one example is Michael Okoye, he lives with me and my family so I’ve learned the language he speaks so I can speak to him in his native language. I took that upon myself so that we could connect, Milos is from Serbia but we have a tight bond as well because we are both shooters. We always stay tight and I talk with my teammates every day.
